The young Italian Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open for the second consecutive time in a competitive final, winning in three sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3) against German Zverev.
“The first one is more of a relief. It’s different. It gives you the knowledge that you can make it if you play great tennis,” Sinner told the assembled media. “The second one, this one, you might enjoy it a little bit more because it’s different.
Sinner replied
But every Grand Slam, or every tournament you win, or you go far, has its own story. You have to overcome difficulties, as I also did this year here, and this makes it very, very special.”
The number one player in the PIF ATP rankings has won three of the last five Grand Slam championships and on Sunday became the first man since Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros 2006 to successfully defend his first major victory.
