A nostalgic song to help you overcome breakups
2024 was a very busy year for the Brazilian indie rock band Atalhos, who toured their country with shows in Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Goiania, among other cities, finishing the phase of the previous album, A Tentação do Fracasso, responsible for a world tour in the last two years with more than 50 shows including festivals in the United States, presentations in Europe, Argentina and other Latin American countries.
Now, to close the year and start a new cycle, the group formed by Gabriel Soares and Conrado Passarelli releases ‘Ayer morí’, a single that paves the way for Atalhos’ fifth album, which will be released in the first half of 2025.
‘Ayer morí’ It is a song with a nostalgic atmosphere, it has an evocative rhythm of the drum machine and melodic guitar chords that are impregnated in lyrics sung in Portuguese and Spanish, which lead to a torrent of distorted guitars and transformative drums.
“‘Yesterday I Died’ is inspired by real life, in terms of relationships, breakups and the difficulties of maintaining love in extreme situations. It is aimed at all those who have faced situations of breakups, of heartbreak and who, somehow, managed to find the necessary transformation to move forward. Yes, there is life after a big breakup, the important thing is not the endings of things and relationships, but the journey.”
Atalhos says.
The song explores a variety of sounds, from the electronic beat present in the drum machine, the strong presence of the acoustic guitar, to the distorted and loud guitars in the second part. It is an indie rock song, but it also flirts with the atmosphere of 90s rock, always allied to contemporary elements that represent a freshness of sound.
The music video for ‘Ayer morí’ was shot in Sao Paulo and directed by the duo Cinza. It has a black and white theme that reveals the backstage of the film studio where the video is shot, with Gabriel (vocalist) arriving in his car to join the band waiting for him inside the studio. The clip has a 4:3 window inspired by music videos from the 90s.
‘Ayer morí’ will be featured on Atalhos’ upcoming album, their fifth album, which will include a world tour that will begin in the United States in March 2025. The duo will release two more singles that will anticipate the full release of the new album, which will hit platforms and stores in vinyl format in May 2025.
