Verstappen beats home heroes Norris and Hamilton at the British Grand Prix

At the legendary Silverstone circuit, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overcame an early attack from McLaren rival Lando Norris to triumph in an action-packed British Grand Prix, marking his first victory at this event and extending his current winning streak to six races.

The Dutchman holds on for his eighth win of the 2023 season with Perez finishing sixth.

Max Verstappen held on at the British Grand Prix to take his eighth win of the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship season and sixth in a row, with Oracle Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez slicing through the field to take a respectable sixth place after starting 15th.

Verstappen made a slow start and was overtaken by local Silverstone hero Lando Norris, however, the Dutchman managed to take the lead soon after with a DRS move on the Briton and then held on to triumph with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton completing the podium.

“We had a terrible start, so we have to analyze why that was. The two McLarens at the start were super fast, so it took us a few laps to pass them. After the safety car with the softer compound around here, it was a bit more complicated for us to keep them (the tires) alive basically. I’m very happy to have won again and for the team to make it 11 wins in a row, I think it’s amazing.”

Mexico’s Checo Perez took advantage of a poor qualifying session on Saturday to prevail in Sunday’s race and finish sixth, with Scuderia AlphaTauri duo Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries finishing 16th and 17th respectively.

With the added point from the fastest lap, Verstappen now extends his 2023 drivers’ lead to 99 points over Perez, while Oracle Red Bull Racing extends its constructors’ title lead over Mercedes to 208 points heading into the Hungaroring Hungarian Grand Prix on July 23.

Driver of the day

Norris overtook Verstappen at the start, with teammate Oscar Piastri almost following, which meant a Red Bull in a McLaren sandwich for the first few laps, but the reigning two-time world champion soon struck back.

Although the British driver was unable to maintain the lead over the Red Bull, local hero Lando Norris pushed the world champion all the way to the end to come home within four seconds of McLaren and take his first podium at Silverstone. Here’s how the vote has been split….
Lando Norris – 45,5
Lewis Hamilton – 12,1
Oscar Piastri – 10,8
Sergio Pérez – 8.1%
Max Verstappen – 5.1%

Next Race

The next stop on the 2023 F1 calendar will be the Hungaroring in Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, which will be held July 21-23.
