Better Call Saul, one of the best series of the last years came to an end

Masterfully continuing the universe of Breaking Bad, the series starring the cunning lawyer Saul Goodman, presented a wonderful closing worthy of a masterpiece, the performances and cinematographic resources are worthy of being remembered and admired for many years to come.

According to David Griffin from IGN- the Better Call Saul series finale is a “masterpiece,” as creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan bid farewell to the Breaking Bad universe in “one of the most satisfying, cathartic and earned finales for a television series in years.”

But how did Gould, Gilligan and the cast pull off this masterful stroke of creativity? We compile the IGN interview

The final scene of Better Call Saul with Kim and Jimmy.

“It was the easiest scene we’ve ever shot,” Bob Odenkirk said of the final scene with Rhea Seehorn’s Kim in the prison meeting room. “It’s one of the few times one of them isn’t trying to manipulate the moment or push some storyline in some direction.”

Bob Odenkirk (Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman) and Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler) achieved an unbeatable chemistry in the series.

Odenkirk added that he believes Kim and Saul “are two people who belong together,” even with all their baggage. Seehorn echoes Odenkirk’s sentiments about that final scene.

“I was very impressed with the way Bob played by her side; he was very careful, the holding, the steadying of her hand. And even the way he does the joke, it’s such a perfectly written scene that he’s trying to make her laugh a little bit, even letting her know somehow that it’s okay.”

Said Peter Gould – Co creator of Better Call Saul season 6.

Was Saul Goodman always destined to go to jail?

Gould explained that the writers room came up with the idea of Jimmy ending up in jail “sometime in season four or five. “I just felt like the right ending for Saul was to be in the system, the system that he’s made a mockery of and twisted for his own ends.”

What separates Saul from the other main antiheroes in the Breaking Bad universe, such as Jesse and Walt, is that his story doesn’t end with him alone, as he has a companion in Kim. “I felt like our series had an extra element to it, and that is that Kim Wexler is so important to us that at this point in the series. She’s sort of a co-star, and she has a very hopeful ending in my book.”

What’s next for Saul and Kim?

And speaking of hopeful endings, Seehorn shared what she thinks is in store for Kim and Jimmy after Better Call Saul. “I’m personally a die-hard romantic,” she explained. “So I think [Kim and Jimmy] are still seeing each other and that there’s still a bond there and that maybe she’s trying to legally figure out a way to reduce her sentence, but in a fair way, not a scam way.”

Seehorn went on to praise Gould for “making an ending that inspires viewers to think beyond that day and wonder what will become of their lives afterward.”

I think [Kim and Jimmy] are still seeing each other and there’s still a bond.”

What would you do if you had a time machine?

Saul Goodman and Walter White debating having to make choices that change the course of the two series.

Throughout the various flashbacks in the finale, Saul asks Mike and Walter what they would change about their lives if they each had their own time machine. While Walt scoffs at the idea as crazy, both men share unique stories about significant points in their lives – Mike mentions the first time he took a bribe, while Walt regrets letting his friends benefit from his scientific discoveries.

“I think he always knew better, and that’s why I love the ending. Because he exhales, he looks at Kim in the courtroom scene and thinks he’s done something pretty smart. And he realizes it’s not enough. It’s not a full confession. And it doesn’t show the extent of his self-awareness and his courage that he can summon and that he’s capable of, and he does it. And he does it in front of her and shows her who he can be.”

Said Bob Odenkirk to IGN.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the simple and realistic way in which the path of the characters ended, a similarity to reality where many of us have two paths to choose from and that in many of these occasions it is one of our personalities that ends up making the final decisions.
