Colombian indie rock band Perlas Finas presents ‘Enajenados’

Enajenados addresses the desperation of living from rejection to rejection in a life full of injustice. The song explores sounds of punk, grunge and stoner rock.

Perlas Finas is an indie rock band from Bogota that was born in 2019 with the need to be able to drain, through music, all kinds of emotions. The group, formed by Gilberto Idárraga (vocals, composition, rhythm guitar and leader), Medardo Muñoz (composition, rhythm guitar and leader), Paula Méndez (drums and keyboards) and Camilo Bahamón (bass), consolidates as a project with the release of their debut single ‘Piel de Cocodrilo’.

The intention of their musical proposal is to show a classic heavy rock facet with additional elements such as nihilistic and sentimental lyrics, versatility in sound, non-standard tunings and metrics and a robust staging with dynamic and energetic shows. All of this inspired by movements such as the Seattle and California desert sound of the 90s, specifically bands like Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, A Perfect Circle, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Flag, Nirvana, Incubus, among others.

“With our songs we seek to make the listener feel understood, being this a resource for the exchange of emotions. Our lyrics are characterized by their ambiguity where, through wordplay, we convey the message,” they say.

Perlas Finas presents ‘Enajenados’, the second single from the EP ‘Tatacoa’, a song that addresses the desperation of living from rejection to rejection in a life full of injustice. The song shows a range of sounds through a very ‘Do It Yourself’ attitude typical of grunge and punk.

The song explores sounds of punk, grunge and stoner rock, genres reflected in the solo, the nihilistic lyrics and the characteristic grunge sound: soft verse, heavy chorus, very much in the Pixies or Nirvana style. Likewise, it is performed in two different tunings, as Medardo’s guitar is in C and Gilberto’s is in standard E.

Gilberto Idárraga (vocals, composition, rhythm guitar and lead), Medardo Muñoz (composition, rhythm guitar and lead), Paula Méndez (drums and keyboards) and Camilo Bahamón (bass).

“The name of the EP comes from the misnamed Tatacoa Desert which, in reality, is a dry forest and whose meaning is the ”Valle de las Tristezas” given by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. It is a conceptual EP that takes the listener through a roller coaster of emotions and different sounds, from the heaviest and strident to the most melancholic and sentimental.”

Tatacoa’ will be released in mid-April and was produced, recorded, mixed and second vocals by Camilo Rengifo at Inmotion Studios and arranged by drummer José Castillo.

Perlas Finas is a versatile proposal. Their music and lyrics become the soundtrack of those who listen to them.

“It is important to make all kinds of emotions and feelings visible and to understand that music is a vehicle for their overflow. We want to be noticed for our differences and because we have a fresh sound that encompasses many facets,” they conclude.
