From April 17 in Bogotá presented the play “The Crime of the Century,” the chosen scenario is the Colón theater one of the most beautiful scenery and more historical tradition in South America
Only a few minutes were enough, a deep sigh that stopped the beating of his heart, did not alter his killer pulse, a premeditated crime, executed by a young man who believed that his mission in this world was to stand out from the common people, It would have an important place in the history of Colombia, it really had it, because without measuring the magnitude of its actions, it drew a line that forever divided the history of a nation until becoming one of the most violent countries of the 20th and 21st centuries.
A famous murderous psychological profile was that of Rodion Raskolnikov (Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky), a man who immortalized the murderer’s duality, who confronts reality as a punishment and crime as a prize, as if the murder were the coming to victorious pinnacle of his own life, this same happened to the murderer of Jorge Eliecer Gaitán, because he fulfilled a mission entrusted by evil men come from the very hells, who knew that three shots (One in the neck, two in the thorax, all of death) would be enough to submerge a country in an ultra violence present to this day
We will always ask ourselves what would be of our destiny as nations, if the flame of the leaders whom we considered righteous would not have been extinguished by the finger trigger who vanished the hope of the masses, that would be of the United States if JFK (John Fitzgerald Kennedy ) will come alive to the white house after his walk through the streets of Dallas (Texas), or if suddenly on an April night in 1865 John Wilkes Booth had not sheathed a gun in one of the boxes of the Ford Theater, they are unanswered questions, but inevitably forever we know are facts that changed the history of millions of people living in a country.
70 years after the Bogotazo (April 9, 1948), the fact that broke the history of Colombia in two forever, the Ministry of Culture presents at the Teatro Colón, ‘El crimen del siglo’, the acclaimed playwright, writer and director, Miguel Torres. A staging unique and full of details, which relates the murder of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán from the perspective of Juan Roa Sierra, his alleged murderer.
